Thumping noise.

When I reverse and steer sharp left or right, coming out of a parking space, I hear a loud thumping noise.
It does not seem to come from the engine.
What can it be, and how to fix it?
I have an old style Mercedes A class, March 2012

Sounds like a knackered CV joint possibly.
Find a large empty car park and drive slowly on full lock left and right. If it clicks or thumps only at or near full lock that's confirmation.
