My mechanical clock works until I get in the car. One I have started her up, the minute hand tries to move but fails, once per minute. It gives a noticeable jerk forward each time, before going back to wherever it was when I turned the ignition on. Once i switch off and walk away the clock starts working properly.

As faults go this is very trivial, but has anyone else had this and is the cure straightforward?

Thanks in advance

Jon

Sounds like, for some reason, the 12v supply to the clock is being reduced when the ignition is turned on.............might be an earthing problem ?

Never had this one up,,, something in the cluster, could be a poor connection / joint on the PCB, does it stop with just the ignition turned on

;-)

The plot thickens.

Went out this morning, minute hand twitching but not moving, as described. Switched off the engine, but switched the ignition back on and waited. Minute hand gave a more substantial twitch, but still remained unmoved.

I have just been back out to the car after a couple of hours. During that time the clock has advanced 20 minutes. Waited to watch, and again it was a substantial twitch (key not in the ignition) but no movement.

This one could run and run . . .

It could well be a faulty clock, easy to change over
