Bought some paint to touch up a front wing that has quickly become quite messy. Now I have the paint I was thinking I might as well attempt to make the rest of the car a little neater as there are a fair few scuffs and small scratches that dont polish out. Therefore I was thinking of T-cutting the car but am told that you can't use T-cut on some types of paint. Would a silver over grey N reg w124 have paint that could be T-cutted?

Also the alloys are a total mess and large parts of the lacquer is peeling off. Is it possible to sand all this off and then re lacquer or repaint the wheels and are there any good products for this, or does this not work?

Grateful for any advice.

Ben

Your car hass a water base coat and a 2 pack top coat and its fine to T cut it, as it leaves a surface OK for painting.

You can prove this point by doing an small area, and the cloth will not be the colour of the car

Thanks Malcolm,

Is it OK to T-cut even if you are not planning to repaint afterwards?

I was thinking of using the touch up paint on the big stone chips and then t-cutting over the whole car as a sort of extreme polish to get rid of the many smaller surface scrateches that don't seem to polish out with normal polish. Or is this the wrong way to go about it?

By all means T cut the whole car and follow up with a good polish, that will seal it well.

When you want to paint a part, just lightly T cut that part and you can paint.

The weather is hardly warm enough yet for painting.

By all means fill some of the holes/ chips now with the touch up paint, and that cleans off like butter once it has dried, do not forget that the paint will sink when it is dry and several coats are needed. You can also remove paint on the good surface around the chips with your finger nail

A Jag. Jags are my favourite.
I'd use a proper cutting product like Farecla G3 in preference to T-Cut
Seconded !

I used to like T-Cut but I think they changed the formula / ingredients and it seems much harder to polish off nowadays. Did they remove too many E numbers in aid of political correctness or something ?

I sprayed a VW Polo wing using Halfords aerosol paint a few years ago, and several weeks later, when I used T-Cut on it, the paint started to dissolve. I ended up using Autosol chrome cleaner as it was the only other thing I had at the time that seemed to work. (motor factors were closed etc)

For the good job it does, G3 seems far better value for money and I find it so much easier to use.

G3 baby!
Great stuff.

If you're going to paint anything, its important that theres no polish residue left on the area you're going to paint. Needs to be thoroughly degreased and cleaned with thinners or similar if you want the paint to stick.

try to clean of with fine wet and dry with water, then use autosolve to polish up, if you want to blast them, use bead blasting, much finer finish.
