It is not the time it would necessarily take but is reasonable for the garage to charge this.

I don't know the engine, but I'd have been surprised if you'd said more

I would have if it was an M119. You have to take in to consideration the garage will not necessarily have the correct tools. This will mean the cams will have to be removed. They can be wound on without the clamping tool but it's extremely fiddly!
I found it a pita the first time. I would not charge 4/5 hours but it's reasonable if the garage doesn't have the dealer tools
What is important is that it's done correctly and everyone is happy at the end of the day.

Ps. Ask them to check the rear oil feed pipe is nice and clear when the rocker cover is off! They always block up and cause ticking

I think the price for the kit includes more than just the chain, maybe guides and tensioner etc. Not sure about your engine but the work involved to change the 'kit' would be a lot more than just changing the chain.

60-80k they usually need doing. You may have worn variator teeth. In which case its probably damaged the chain that was fitted 30k ago

It needs stripping. Then the variator gears checking for wear. No other way forward

I asked that question when I bought my S210 320CDI I6 (OM613). The dealer said never, but if I really wanted to have a chain change to come back at 400,000 miles.
