i think you will probably find that the majority of V rated tyres have a 91 load index. the W rated tyres, 95 is the norm (stronger and more heat resistant due to higher speed rating, hence higher load rating) which is why the estates have the higher rated tyres, its for their LOAD rating NOT the speed rating.

Apparently not! From the owner's manual - Saloon 95V, estate 95W. Both for the 225/55 R16 tyre option.

Still makes no sense!

i have no doubt that is true, but 95V will probably be a MO tyre or similar. ive seen very few V rated tyres with anything other than a 91 speed rating, and ive seen an awful lot of tyres in my time, if im honest. also, most places will only stock 91V tyres as theyre probably a little cheaper than the 95V ones.
