As an additional comment, you only really have a choice of ratings that are over and above those recommended in the handbook. At least in the eyes of one's insurers..

read the ratings on the tyres that are on the car, read all 4, I would have thought at least 99 is ok but it may need Y for the speed rating

currently have 99 v's but that could have been due to the previous owner having the wrong ones before?

If you car does not go faster than 145 then V are fine and probably correct

On all the cars that I drive its more like £266 per corner :(

yes i know what you mean, i could have gone for about £200 per corner but with so many other expenses last month, this month and next it just wasn't an option :( so when i found these i was happy :) i'll update on my experiances with them but from what others have said on here Nexen's are pretty good :D

According to my manual, the tyres are specified as 'W' speed rating and '95' load rating for a S211 E320CDI on 225/16s.

For reasons which no one has been able to explain (I have asked on here before!) the speed rating for the equivalent W211 is 'V'.

So the estate version has a higher speed rating rather than load rating, which to my mind at least doesn't make a whole load of sense).

P.S. The 270 is the same spec.

Yes that really makes no sense but hey I guess that is Merc logic. Now I have paid for the V's I won't be able to return then so I really hope they will be ok although I can't really see any reason why they wouldn't?

i think you will probably find that the majority of V rated tyres have a 91 load index. the W rated tyres, 95 is the norm (stronger and more heat resistant due to higher speed rating, hence higher load rating) which is why the estates have the higher rated tyres, its for their LOAD rating NOT the speed rating.
