Wish him a good trip. I found the factory visit really interesting and the drive back in snow and minus 10 degrees was postcard beautiful. Mercedes ran it really well and looked after us all the way. Tell him to come back via the "Wine Route" in Germany and the via the champage area in France and near Rheims. Their recommended hotel in the champagne area is wonderful and the food there was .... - just the best imaginable; the memory lingers.
I was given this advice by the owner of a Merc dealership and it turned out fine. Took my wife and the extra charge was modest.

For others pondering the trip;
They drove us to Heathrow in an E class, then BA flight -Business Class- to Stuttgart - put us up in 4* hotel, great meal in evening; tour of factory etc in morning, free lunch if you want it and we chose ferry on the way back (Calais Dover). They pay for all the above for one person for the normal delivery charge. Instead of rushing back we stayed several extra nights en route. They book and bill you the extra costs just of the hotels. Back home to dealer. Collect loan car while they clean, check and do Pre Delivery Inspection on your new purchase. Go back next day and there she is. All ready.:D

He did it back when he bought his 600 (£100k and sold it later in the year for £40k) He has been given two nights in a 5 star hotel for two people, he only ever puts 15k miles on his cars before he sell them. the last SL he bought was back in 98 and he only kept that for 3 months, what a life.

Are you saying it went from 100 to 40 in one year? Even Fords don't do that.

I can never understand the truly rich and how they justify the waste, the lack of any reasonable concept of value for money. Met a guy near here on a marina with a £140,000 boat he was selling. Only had it 4 months. Only used it 4 times he said. Just one port to another in the Solent. How do you justify I said. He replied: " The joy of being rich is you can place nice toys to play with wherever you might be. I have a boat here and another in Spain just in case I think -oh it would be nice to go out on my boat today. I don't have that thought very often because I own lots of other toys too. And they all take time. Anyway I get most of my pleasure from buying them, and thinking about buying them, and choosing the extras, than I do from using them."

That is what he said and he meant every word.

It was the big one with double glazed windows based on the 140, it had 8k miles when he sold it, I had the car for one day, and it drove like a mini, to be truthful I think he got £42k in px. He has been a good friend of 40 years standing, its like you really, you have your new S class but you are still a nice normal guy.
