NOT SLK but E 270 CDi 211

Over the last 6 months I have had a few large invoices paid out on this car. I have owned it over 3 years and that is unusual in its self. Normall at 2 years I get itchy for something else, however I then faced two dilemas, what to replace it with and what will be the advantage. So here is what I did.First I phoned a pal in the motor trade to get a Glasses P/X Price £7250.00 Second gave it a good wash and polish Third had the wheels refurbished, as it's already on a non aging plate it looks almost pristene so that was that for now, And for a final line in the form of a question. If you were 6ft 6in and 181/2 stone what would you buy for all day comfort reasonable ecconomy and plenty of power for everyday driving? Done BMW Done AUDI

Hi Pan Man. If you look at the life cycle of large numbers of cars, the graph has a peak for replacement of items like brake pads, tyres, some exhausts, plugs etc at 2.5 to 3.5 years and another similar peak at around 6.5 years.

The Scotsman in me says that, having got past the first peak you can look forward to several years motoring in the bits that you have now paid for - which won't really be reflected in any trade in or sale price you might get for it at present.

For a replacement, you are quite right to consider the ergonomics. My answer might not thrill you, but I believe you should start your search with Volvo - S80 or V70. I have had a couple and they are excellent cars, comfortable, good ergonomics, good specification and, since subjected to the Ford QA system in manufacture, very good reliability too (the only profitable branch of Ford for several seasons). Diesels average over 40 mpg.

In addition, they were working on the various marketing angles (discounting, pre-registration) some years ago and huge (25%) discounts off list were available for zero mileage cars with good spec.

Those numbers should now be reflected in the market generally. There is a dealer in the Birmingham area who specialises in deals of this sort - if it is your own rather than an employer's money, that is where I would start. ;)

Another day closer, but not old yet.

Here are some things to look out for:

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD
1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there (!)
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

Love Story

I will seek and find you.
I shall take you to bed and have my way with you.

I will make you ache, shake & sweat until you moan & groan.

I will make you beg for mercy, beg for me to stop.

I will exhaust you to the point that you will be relieved when I'm finished with you.

And, when I am finished, you will be weak for days.

All my love,

The Flu

Now get your mind out of the gutter and go get your flu shot!
