I have a 2017 B-class (W246) with Audio 20

This has sat nav with Garmin maps, but also has a 3-year TomTom traffic subscription.

I've just bought a new Garmin maps SD card (V10 2018), and it works fine, except that with the new SD card in the car, I lose my TomTom traffic subscription.

If I put the original (V8 2017) SD card back in the car, the TomTom subscription appears again, so presumably there's something that should be copied from the old card to the new.

Anyone have any idea what needs to be copied, please? I have read elsewhere that there should be a TomTom licence file on the SD card, which presumably I have on the old card, but it's not obvious where.

Note: I do have a valid traffic licence here, I just don't know how to move it to my new SD card.

I imagine I won't get anywhere with my dealer, since I didn't buy the SD card from them. The place I did buy it from doesn't know anything about the TomTom traffic sub.

thanks very much…

Excuse my ignorance but don’t you get free map updates for 3 years?

I have with mine which has Comand 5.1

I had my maps updated at the dealership last year and TomTom traffic is still shown valid to 2019.

Thanks Robin, but no, sadly not.

I don't have COMAND.

With Audio 20, and Garmin Maps, you only get a 60 day grace period for a free map upgrade.

The TomTom live traffic subscription is indeed 3 years, however. That's the problem: how to transfer the existing traffic sub to the new maps SD card.

I've googled, but couldn't find anything, other than comments that even some dealers don't seem to know how to do it.

Calum did you buy the upgrade from the dealership?

If you did I would put pressure on them to sort this out, failing that contact Mercedes customer services, aggro I know but I’m sure eventually it will be sorted.

Thanks Robin, but no, as I said above, I didn't get it from the dealers. If I had, there wouldn't be a problem (well, other than being ripped off by whatever insane price they would charge).

The place that sold me is happy to refund, and I get my traffic back, but then no new maps, sigh.

thanks anyway.

Yes sorry Calum just reread your first post.

I’m sure you can get this sorted anyway.

When you find out...PLEASE tell me how you did it..

We have the same car/model set up by the sound of it...

I'll happily take a directory dump of my card vs yours to see what the diff might be.

Mercedes tell me that the Audio 20 doesnt have a Tomtom subscription!! and I cant Buy it on Merc Me!!

I've got a V7 card and a V10 card... neither of them have ever had the traffic updates that worked... and I've given up with Mercedes asking them over and over again about this...

Yet
1) there is a whole section in the system about it
2) you have clearly demonstrated it DOES exist!

Its even in my build sheet... but again mercedes say its not possible! WEIRD!

Calum,
I've used this info to ask some searching questions of Mercedes... I cant believe how difficult they make all of this...its almost like there are a whole bunch on engineering upgrades sitting on a server but you have to ask... And like the sat nav stuff... if you dont know the right question ... you miss out of things like "the first 3 months free but needs to be activated by your dealer"...
Dealers should just do this...and just upgrade stuff as a matter of course as part of the service... blessed should for the money they charge...

I'll let you know how I get on..

on a merc you can only update a single module one at a time...

which means the tech needs to nanny the car... which costs a fortune and takes forever... they will do a scan and if an update is majorly safety critical they will add reluctantly, otherwise it will NEVER be applied to the car in most circumstances

a mate with fully loaded c class has been through many fights to get updates... last round after saying traffic sign recognition crashes out they updated the gearbox software and handed him an £800 bill on top of a std service... vehicle is just 2 weeks outside warranty and they never updated the maps.... and as far as I know this is the BEST, most diligent and responsible merc dealership in the country with a great reputation... and mate is ex motor vehicle tech so not your average a numpty and I doubt being taken for a ride

On the second request to Mercedes helpline they HAVE confirmed my car has all the "parts" needed to get the traffic...
but I needed to take it into a dealer..
Chatted on line with the dealer people to book it in.... as usual...still waiting for a call back 2 working days later..

But I'll see if i get it fixed.. and If I get to speak to the tech team ...ask them about transferring the licence

Hey Callum, did you find how to move the TomTom Traffic subscription file(s) from one Garmin map memory card to another?
