there isnt a drain plug on the later cars for the torque converter. commonest way to drain it is to undo 1 of the oil cooler pipes and crank the engine without letting it start. allow it to settle and repeat 3 or 4 times to ensure you get as much old oil out as possible. refit oil cooler pipe and refill with the CORRECT transmission fluid. ordinary atf will ruin the gearbox! also ensure that the oil is at the correct level when checked at the correct temperature.

Pete is spot on in the above post. Drain plugs were slowly deleted and there were none after 30-09-99

That solves that mystery. We did this with the gear selector in the neutral position and additional fluid pumped out. Would it have mad any difference in drive as we have not replenished the ATF fluid yet. Many thanks Adrian

i dont think they would have been able to crank the engine if the gear selector was in drive Malcolm!

Hi Pete,,I read that they pumped it out, and assumed that they had a pump to do this

sorry, it could be my mistake. however as i read it, i thought they'd pumped it out by cranking the engine as id described in the post above.thats why i thought they wouldnt be able to do it in drive!

You are probably correct on reading it again,,,if they did, if only for a short time then no. What you do not want is the pump running dry

we did pump it out, by cranking the engine over. Just curious, how much should we put back in? as we've not been able to get a dipstick for the ATF.

I would buy 6 liters and see how you go,,they hold 7.5 from new, but never possible to get it all out.

make a dip stick from curtain wire, in D when hot it should be around 5.6cm up the wire
