Torque settings for the S203 OM646.963 Engine exhaust manifold
Just rebuilding my Mercedes now after having to replace the turbocharger (major failure!!). Oil and carbon deposits everywhere plus an injector seal and holder failure. i.e. After removing the injector finally and retrieving the washer, the fact it was only slightly black did not convince me it was just the washer failure. I agree that black death is also caused by a design fault with the holder and bolt being the only way to hold down the injector. Anyway, I mistakingly undid the exhaust manifold bolts thinking I needed to take this off to get the turbo out,....I didn't. So now I need to do up the bolts again however as they are major bolts they will need torquing. Thus I need the torque settings for these and if possible all the bolts that need torquing on my Mercedes Benz C220 CDI Classic SE S203.208, OM646.963 Please anyone?

are they 8mm x1.25 ? on a 13 spanner

http://www.npfasteners.com/technical/tightening-torques.htm

personally i just tighten them till i know they are about right , half the time no access for T wrench anyway never had any fall out yet or broke em. but see attch guide, if yr a bit muscle bound ,get someone to stamp on yr tightening arm first ! i assume they are metal locking nuts copper coated ,right? if so its not bad practice to replace them as they often run up the stud free on second use and therefore dont lock in which case if no new avial i would use a shake proof washer as well ,if that was avail..

link says 29.4 so abut right. remember to use an unwound T/W as if not the accuracy is useless

Blast, that link was excellent,....until I noticed it was the USA version not the UK version. Is there a UK version and therefore listing the S203 as opposed to the American alternative?

Okay, thank you for that. However that is rather a small table for all the bolts on a Merc, and what is the strength class?
