Torque Vs BHP

I am thinking of buying an E430, I will use it for a 10 mile daily commute at an average speed or 15MPH. plus a further 2000 miles per year motorway and 2000 miles per year caravan towing.

I want to know whether I should look at Torque or BHP and if so am I just as well suited with E240, E220CDI, E270CDI, E320 and so on.

Does anyone have the BHP and Nm torque for all these models.

Probably a bit late for a reply but HP tells how fast it is and torque how relaxing to drive. One of my old friends - sadly now deceased - used to ask young engineers he was interviewing whether the max torque or max power of an engine were most important. Anyone who said torque had the interview terminated immediately!

you dont say whether this is a new car or used. If new then the official MB websites have new car specs eg. MBUSA.com and whatever the UK equivalent it. Otherwise a short search on google usually does the trick.

If its slow commute and towing then a diesel is ideal for both , and less fuel to boot . The new models are no slouches. Diesels have good torque which is important for relaxed towing.

for all new models you will also find them listed in What Car and similar mags but the best mag I have found for quick ref is 'Mercedes Enthusiast' which has a complete table of all past and present models with their vital stats, its also a good read.
