Tow bar & electrics for CLK350 W209 Cabriolet

Hi,

I've just bought a couple of bikes for my wife and I, and assumed wrongly that finding a bike rack for this car would be simple! How wrong I was. It seems the best bet now is to have a detatchable tow bar fitted and go for a Thule Bicycle Tow Ball Carrier http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/ride-on-bicycle-carrier.htm

The surprise problem was trying to find a manufacturer of Tow bars that supports the W209 CLK Cabrio (55 plate) along with electrics. The Bosal referred to on this thread was for an older model - http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=49375&highlight=tow+bar+clk&page=2

The Witter version here http://www.towequipe.co.uk/1/1/486745-witter-detach-towbar-fits-mercedes-clk-cabriolet-03.html looks fine, but doesn't have any electrics! Clearly I don't really have a clue what I'm doing, and will ask a pro to fit it, but it would be good to get any ideas from anyone what the best bet here is, whether the carrier, or the Tow Bar?

Hi Malcolm, thanks for the welcome. I'm at a starting point of having the car and the bikes - nothing else! So as far as I can gather the cleanest way is to have a detatchable tow bar installed, which would need the electrics to go with it, then to have a cycle rack complete with lighting and plate rig like one of these http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/ride-on-bicycle-carrier.htm

I just can't find a make of Tow Bar that comes with electrics for the W209 CLK. As Witter make a bar that fits, at least knowing where to get the electrics rig for a tow bar would be great!

MB do a special kit for this, it plugs into the rear of the car


Just ask at your MB dealer,,they are very easy to wire in
