Tow bar removal

Can someone tell me how to remove the detachable tow bar from my 89 4matic estate before I inadvertently hook another shopping trolley and take it home? Cheers, BM

There's a knob on the side - rotate it and the gooseneck can be withdrawn. There is a hole in the knob for a cylindrical lock. If the knob won't rotate it's probably because it's locked
