Thanx brandwooddixon,

Was a bit concerned about so much not for the AVG model. Probably because they are lower MB dont reccommend towbars, so I was told. What type of cost is a detachable?

I can send you the 210 fitting instruction that covers the models that can be done

Malcolm,
Please, please, please can you also send me the fitting instructions/electrics instructions?
I am still puzzling over where the rear SAM is located.

Many thanks for the info.
Are these details equally applicable to saloon and estate or should I look out for minor differences (i.e. component locations etc.)?

Tow bar electrics

I would like a Tow bar wiring kit for my 210 e320cdi estate year 2000 if anyone knows where you can get one.
My Tow bar is a new unfitted Mercedes one made by ORIS with a key operated detachable head it feels like it was made on a tank production line I wish my car was as well built I could make my own parking spaces.

I have a number of enquiries underway concerning availability of vehicle specific towbar wiring kits. I will post feedback on here as soon as I have it.
By the way Frontstep, which MB agent had the fixed bars complete with electrics and how long ago are we talking?

I have just bought my first MB about a month ago , an E320 cdi Avantgarde and i am so pleased i did , now i want to fit a towbar for towing a 1500kg caravan .

Firstly will a non MB towbar be ok ? , and secondly the electrics , can MB supply a wiring kit ? , and if so does this plug in to the existing wiring loom ?.

Can i get hold of a wiring kit that is not MB , and it will do the same ?.

The vehicle is fitted with the parking sensors , how are these affected ?.

And lastly how will the gearbox fair with towing this 1500kg caravan , are they liable to overheat ? .

Sorry for all the questions guys , but as a newbie i want to do everything right .

Thanks

Dont want to worry you, but, I have an E200 Avgard modell amd was told by Irish dealer that they are not reccommended to tow caravans as the car is too low. Any comments on that. It's what confused me about the Bosal etc towbars, NOT AVAILABLE FOR AVANTGARDE models.

theres plenty of people with caravans on avantgarde models here. i think the problem was if the prings bottom out, but special spring assisting blocks can be bought cheaply to prevent that happening

Frontstep,
I have now had feedback from several independent towbar outfits: Towsure, Towequipe, P F Jones and others. None of them any longer stock a vehicle specific towbar wiring kit for the W210. It seems kits for 211s are no problem but presumably they are not compatible. I am still waiting for a response from Westfalia who may still have 210 kits available apparently - we shall see.
By the way I checked with my local dealer (Exeter) about the fixed bar + electrics deal you mentioned but they know nothing about it so I assume it must be some specific arrangement between your local dealer and MB.

LHD only?

Just bought a 52 W210 and looking for a towbar - you guys are running the perfect thread!

I just called my local inchcape merc dealer and tried to order this part number and they said it's listed as fitting a left-hand-drive only? I can't see what the difference would be but they said the wiring loom on an lhd is different so the vehicle-specific wiring could be too.

Should I keep looking or chance-it do you think?

Thank you :)
