Hi,
I used a c220cdi Auto sport coupe (2002) for towing my caravan (Abbey Vogue 460) with no problems at all.
I have towed all over Britain and a quite a number of times to France.
I had a westfallier tow bar removable fitted, and towed up to 1300kgs + duty free wine:lol: (85% kerb wieght) with no problems.
I now tow with my CLK 220 cdi still with no probems (up to now -not tempting providence)
Mili.
Only if you get your balance and MTLW wrong! other wise go for it and happy camping. I am going over to Belgium, luxembourg end july- August. with my new Bailey.
The towing capability for the Mercedes-Benz C - 200 CDI
with a Abbey GTS 420:
92% 1489 kg 1610 kg
This is'nt looking good or helpfull, I cant find neither your car (that does'nt matter at present, or your Caravan to do the calcs ........ need more van info ...... car info will come from forum I guess.
Mili,
I think the 85% wieght is 1345Kg for the Sport Coupe and max reccommended tow limit of 1500kg by mercedes, this is to do with hillstarts not actual towing weights as you don't want to go over the max kerb weight of the vehicle (100% allowable if driver is used to towing) see Caravan club etc. for free advice as they do post leaflets for info'.
On a quick calculation your caravan is quite a lightweight, but be carefull as older vans show MIRO or ex factory weights not the MTLW or MAM wieght which is the factory weight plus what you put in it.
So as I said, "Check your tow weight and balance very carefully" including the nose weight (7%), and Happy Camping.
My bailey is 91% of the Kerb weight according to factory calculations but actually nearer to 83% after checking it on a weigh bridge, so if in doubt get it and your car weighed, (Idealy seperately) it is not costly but is very good at calming nerves:lol:
