My son's 20130C350 is about due for a trans oil and filter change, from what i have read up on the looks a little more involved than it used to be, I’m making the assumption that it will be a 722.9. box

For peace of mind I was going to get all the parts from the dealer and do it myself, and buy a suitable device and adaptors to pump the fluid back in, is it worth the hassle or would you take it in somewhere and have it done.
What’s your experience / advice

Many dealerships have a customer veiwing window into the workshop. So maybe that's an option if you're nervous, I completely understand.

as above , not an expensive job really , take it too a reputable indy I say
Someone's going to be able to recommend a good one in your area. There's videos on YouTube of people DIY'ing the 722.9 service, but it looks a bit of a ball ache without a lift TBH, more so than the 722.3?

Thats a very good price....I'm planning on doing the transmission oil change on my recently acquired 2014 E class w212 with the 722.9 box, and am getting the parts that I'll need at the moment. And so far, price-wise, its close to €200. Did they do a complete change, inc the torque converter and ATF radiator?

That's what I would be thinking..I'd be getting minimum 10 ltrs ( but most likely 12,to give a bit of a safety margin) and at a conservative price of £15 per litre, thats £150 alone just for fluid, and another £50 minimum for the filter and gasket kit, brings it up to £200. So I guess that is what they quoted you for..basic oil and filter change, with quite a lot of old fluid remaining in the TC and Radiator.

The transmission should be serviced every 40K miles. You have a very good independent 45 minutes from Leicester via M69): Mercland at Nuneation - they're a highly regarded firm and they did my transmission service last year for about £200 incl.

All the NCT ( MOT) centres here in Ireland have windows looking out on the testing area, so you can watch while the test is ongoing, but for the majority of people waiting, they are not mechanically minded, and basically just watching the body language and facial expression on the mechanic doing the test. I imagine that any workshops allowing customers to view what is going on would view it the same way.....nonetheless, its a very positive point in favour of any workshop allowing it.

If you are mechanically minded, and don't mind getting your hands dirty, then go for it. I did it for the first time back in 2018, after buying my first MB. Worked out fine for me too. Watched several video's, and got stuck in, Car was raised up on stands as I did not have access to a lift or pit, but it worked fine. Now planning on doing the same job on the latest arrival,,,722.9 Trans, 2014 E class w212 CDI. If you have any questions, feel free to post here on the forum,,,loads of help and advice always available. Good Luck, if you decide to do it your self.
