Engine: 2.0ltr Petrol - Kompressor

I've got trouble with my car. The MAF sensor failed with error P0101, I ordered and fit a replacement MAF and the engine started running extremely choppily and losing power when trying to pull away. The CEL came back on with error P0172. However, putting the old sensor back on brings back P0101 but the engine runs smoothly.

Is this a problem with the new new new (I've had 2 replacements) MAF sensor, or is it revealing a deeper seated issue with the car?

What is the mileage.
Is it possible to put up a picture of the electrical connector to the MAF preferably unplugged.

Non OEM MAFs cause problems, but you also need to reset the adaptations (that isn't the fault codes) because the ECU will learn values of the old failed MAF. It will readapt over time but that is why you get the lumpy idle and poor running.

The other thing to remember is that just because the MAF code is there, it doesnt mean that is the fault. On the old HFM systems it used the MAF to trigger engine lights and limp mode by removing the signal line. It will then store a fault code to say that it has done so. Which then triggers a merry go round amongst amateurs trying to fix their car.
