Trunk Does Not Open in S500

I just brought my car back from the dealer who repaired some rust spot on the front fender and now my trunk does not open. Its a 2001 S500. I have tried the automatic button on the key and also the button on the drivers door. I can hear the motor making sound and the only way to open the trunk is by inserting the small key into the lock and pushing the trunk up with much force.

When it is up it will automatically come down if I push the red button, however it does not unlock and go up (open).

Please help.

Has the trunk been locked with the key? The key slot should be vertically aligned for it to be unlocked. If it is horizontally aligned turn with key counter clockwise 90 degrees.

The only way to open it is with the small key that you insert into the lock. Then when it opens manually an inch, then the power function will raise the trunk all the way and also lower it and lock it. It is just the unlocking and opening that is not working automatically, everytime I have to insert the key manually.

You have a air leak to the lock, seen a few where the pipe spits where its on a bend, needs tracing and a repair, or it could be boot lock itself!!

Its quite a big lock, as SAM check the vacuum pipe, but could be the diaphragm

Ok Thanks. Now how do I check if I have an air leak. Then how do I repair the problem?

Do I raise the trunk, then remove the carpet lining and inspect the wires coming to the lock on the rear lid?

Let me know the next steps I would like to fix this myself.

I think I found the problem, it appears to be the diaphragm. I was hearing sounds of air louder then normal and when I took the lining off the trunk I saw this black diaphragm was apart, plastic looks broken. Now how do I remove the vacuum connectors without breaking them, and how do I remove this blue electric wire connector, is there a special locking to disconnect these connectors.

The electrical connector un clip with a catch on the long side, you often just squeeze them.

I will have a look to see if I have the instructions, you may have to jog me tomorrow

I use a piece of tubing with a slot that goes over the pipe, and push that down over the 2 clips to release it, with 2 people you can use 2 small screwdrivers, while one is pulling the pipe

I glued the plastic on the diaphragm together so it stays and now the trunk is working.

Thank you everyone for your help, it saved me over $600. I will order a new part but it looks like I have to order the entire assembly, not just the small plastic diaphragm. I hope the glue works.
