I have aquired a 1990 300e 4matic in great shape except the ignition tumbler has failed . I have the dash off, the tranny cable out and the allen bolt off . The tumbler is trashed and i can not get it into position one. so Im trying to remove the whole lock assembly . I read a post that said to drill out a pin the normaly retracts when your in position one (i think i can see a detaining pin of some sort throul a hole in the lock casting where it slips on to the steering column ). -- 25 years of wrenching - this is a new one to me - has anyone done this job - ??? suggestions - ??

Ignition tumbler

You need a very sharp drill bit as the pin is purposely made of harder metal than the black metal casting.

The other alternative is to drill out the barrel until you can move it.
