hi folks,
few days back i went to my mechanic as my car ECU light was on and there was no pulling power on it at all and was jerking. the mechanic put it on the computer and it said ''TURBO UNDER BOOST'', i and he advised the turbo is gone and need to be changed along with the mass.
we order a complete new turbo changer and put it in on the mechanic advise we didnt change the mass.
costed me a GRAND , i i got my car back yesterday, it was running as new and the pulling power was great, i was really impressed . i might have done a total of 50miles since getting the car back when the EMU light came back on and the car is having no pulling power at all at time. like with u give it full gas still the RPM is stuck at one point.
now when he checked the car he said the turbo is gone as it was leaking and secondly he showed me the pipe there was a big leak in it.
DOES ANY ONE KNOWS WHTS HAPPENING. AM completely shocked,we have been using the mechanic for the last 2 years
my car is MERCEDES C220 CDI 2006 WITH 60000 MILES ON THE CLOCK.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME

Sorry to hear about the probs you have been having!!!

Getting to the root of these faults is not away black and white!!

But, if he has fitted the turbo and that was not the fault, then your old turbo should be re-fitted and you not charged as it did not cure the fault!!

Thats the way we work, and i belive thats the way any garage should work!!

Welcome to the forums!!

yup, get that split pipe changed? which pipe was it, a rubber one? the 'stuck rpm' is something your ecu does when it detects a fault. have you any idea what fault codes are now stored? does your mechanic have a mercedes computer system?

yeah, sorry adnan, does sound bad.

turbos will always have a certain amount of oil going through them from the crankcase breather sytem. the hoses are made of an oil proof material. a split hose is a sure cause of the fault code you seem to have, and not uncommon.

good luck getting your money back.

yeah, take it from him and do your own checks.

a company like garrett will probably be able to help you with this. they have a uk base and made your turbo.

I'm not sure without looking if yours is a "normal" turbo or VNT, if normal then easy to check as it is basically a main shaft on bearings, just hold one end and wiggle it up and down and pull it back and forth, do this both ends and if there is more than the tiniest bit of movement then it would need rebuilding, if there's lots of play, time for a new turbo, but any good turbo company will take yours in part ex..

he will have the variable vane turbo steve. problematic as they often only stick when fully hot and under boost.

however the comments you make for bearing wear still apply - he was told it was loosing too much oil after all..

i wonder if he has the dpf, any how, that split pipe needs replacing first
