turbo diesel starting problems

I have an R registered E300 Turbo Diesel with 200,000 miles on the clock. For the past 100,000 miles it has occasionally, out of the blue, refused to start; apparently the pump pumps air not diesel. Everything has been tried to solve this problem to no avail; any suggestions?

You say everything been done but you don't tell us what been done. So how do we know everything been done. If you see what I mean.
