Hi
My main dealer has just informed me that the seals on my c class 270 cdi turbo are leaking and will only last about 6 months,he says the only fix is to replace the whole turbo unit at well over a £1000.i dont have much experience of turbos and am told that oil could find its way into other parts of the engine and cause more damage...

ist thing is it a big job replacing the turbo and where abouts on the engine is it?

2nd can i just clean the oil out of it every now and then ?

cheers in advance

If the seals are going then no you can't ignore it or you will do more damage.
But, they aren't that hard to swap out so as you have some time to shop around you can track down a recon unit for (I'd imagine) a lot less than that or even have your own reconditioned.
