I delivered a window regulator by hand yesterday to a dealer as he was very close, and he had a yard full of Mercedes of all ages/models including a few G-Wagens.

Tucked away was a green W124 saloon that was his own car, though judging by the grass round it it'd been a while since it had moved. He said it was a Turbo Technics conversion, which I guess would be "fun" to drive. Wiki suggests 300-400 bhp!

Have any of these survived? I guess a few will have been wrapped round street furniture, but some may have been cherished. I suspect this one may be for sale to the right enthusiast.

Whenever these get talked about one subject is always a common theme, getting them to run right.
The one in the link is no different, misfire problems, which as we all know can be an expensive enough fix without the added complication of the turbo's and any changes to the ECU that were made at the time of conversion.

It's difficult enough finding someone honest who's competent enough to fix a normal E320 ECU, if it's been 'doctored' at conversion time the parts and mapping rarity problems could escalate quickly.

that is true for the 320 but doesn't hold for the 300-12v and 24v conversions as these are based on K-jetronic and only have a small piggy back unit from TT.

lol- the engine does run, but with a missfire, possible wiring loome? you think!! talk about home-made!

the wiring is comical

I looked at the photo and assumed that Granny's knitting had been left in the engine bay. I didn't even begin to think that mess was part of the equipment

I must admit I am very tempted to get my hands on that lump. Problem is I'd be pretty sure the misfire is internal. Does anyone know the difference between the internals of the standard 30024v lump? Despite being a specialist I have never worked on one of these!!!
