Hello everyone. I just bought my first Mercedes - 2011 model AMG CLS63, so still working out a few things about it. One silly little thing I don't understand is that the manual says that if you push the indicators to the point of resistance (and let go) they should flash 3 times, which is ideal for lane changing moves etc. But on mine they don't - as soon as I leave go they stop indicating. If I push a bit further, I'm at the point where the indicators click into position and stay there. Is there a setting that turns this on/off somewhere - I've looked but can't find it!

Perhaps you're holding the indicator stalk in position for too long ..... you only need to briefly hold the stalk at the indicate position.

When all else fails read the instruction book ....... you've opened the manual too soon :D

sorry, I read the instuction book. If I hold the indicator stalk in position very briefly, it cancels the indicator before it's even finished the first flash. Unless the indicators themselves are indicating but the car is giving me no audible or visual indication that they are doing so.

Maybe as you suggest, it's possible to turn that function off & the previous owner has done so.

And welcome to the forum :)

And if there is, then I'd like to know how.

Coming from a Transport background, Having been extended a 'courtesy' by an HGV driver, the 'traditional' acknowledgement is a single left indicator flash once ahead of the vehicle. To a following driver, three flashes is likely to be construed that the vehicle in front has developed a fault and the motorist might need to pull in.

What started off as 'good manners' then becomes, to the driver following, a 'heads up' as to what may happen next.:(

Damn car designers. They must travel our roads with their heads up their arses.

Can’t see that you can switch this function on or off anywhere?

got it to work this morning - I was pushing the indicator stalk further than necessary, even though it wasn't as far as the latching position. Giving it a small nudge is what was needed :).

As regards Ken's comment, one flash might be the HGV driver's "thank you", but the HGV driver behind is expecting the lane change; three flashes of the indicator is better for when you need to indicate you're about to do a lane change other drivers don't know you're going to do otherwise.

Glad you're sorted :)

When in cars without lane change 3 flash indicators, I used to do one flash left, one flash right & then one flash left. I now do 2 or 3 flashes on my hazards. :)
