Hello and welcome,, I do not think that you will find anyone that would activate it for any front screen.

Can't imagine why you would want to risk your safety and that of others because you want to watch X-Acedemy...

to be honest, i dont know why anyone would need a tv in their car! ok dvd player for kids but tv? also as has been said, definately illegal. i believe police have the power to impound your car for this now, although im not 100% sure. on a nice cls, id not want to risk it either way!

Sorry Peter but I agree with the majority here as I dont think anyone should watch TV at the front when they should concentrate on driving and the safety of passengers and others.

If I had a CLS then I'd just listen to the engine and not use radio or TV.

Screens in the car

If ANY video or TV image is visible from the driving seat whilst in motion that is illegal FULL STOP.
The only exception to a screen viewed from the driving seat is the screen of a Satelite Navigation System.
This is the law in most countries.

I believe it is possible - there used to be people on ebay that would enable it - but only an arse would actually do it. Turns a nice motor into a lethal death trap. As has been discussed before, no matter how well diciplined you are, nobody can avoid being distracted.
Anyway - welcome.

Why are police traffic cars allowed to have real time video displays on the dashboard when they are tailing cars I wonder?? Surely that is as distracting as having a TV screen or DVD playing where the driver can see it?

Bollocks!

They are trained drivers. The copilot is checking the video, the driver is driving.

I don't think one can compare trained police drivers with general public. They are at work, not passing time!

What the driver is seeing is the exact same as what the video camera is recording.
Why would he want to see on the screen what he is seeing first hand.
Police are often seen carrying weapons which the public are not allowed to carry.
I think your question is a little bit beyond DAFT.

Well obviously I am not blessed with being holier than thou like you two seem to be.... I was merely asking a question not asking to be insulted..... I thought these sort of forums had nice, helpful people on them; obviously I was wrong and there are some exceptions.

You are correct in the fact that there are many good and honest people on this forum, but as in real life there are all kinds on it also.
In my humble opinion to ask the question "Why police can have a display" which is used in court as evidence IS A SILLY QUESTION, it is like asking why rain falls down and not up.
I am sorry you took my reply as an insult it was not couched that way at all, but if you cannot take a reply at face value, and only see it as an insult, then so be it. It was not done in that vein and I did not think you were so prissy and thin skinned and took offence so easily.

Touche!!

I was only asking the question because there is also the infra red camera view on some new S Class models which enhance the view at night, but I would imagine would also cause a distraction to some. I wonder how the courts or police would view the driver of an S Class in an accident with one of those in use at the time?

You have a good question there my man.
I think it would be a double edged sword .
The driver (and I ) could insist that the display was for safety and show up immages not easily seen by the naked eye.
The plod or the Crown Prostitution Services would have a different view from the whole rest of the world as they normaly do.
You only have to look at Lady Scotland getting a paltry fine for breaking the law and the worker she illegally employed can face a £10000 fine and 5 years in jail.
I wouild like to see this one in court and see what strange outcome there was.

What they are seeing Barry is only the same thing as night vision,,I do not think that they watch it as such,,it only comes into use when a number plate can be seen through the window but not read in the car, and the passenger can do that

I have never been one for pussy footing about short and straight to the point that is me.
I do not see the point in featherbedding and beating about the bush.
Cut to the chase and get it out PRONTO.

I think that the older I get possibly the shortet my leash gets, but hell at my age I think I have earned that priviledge (the hard way)

As usual Malcolm you are correct, and I am sure that sometimes you say things with tongue in cheek.
But as Edward Bulwer Lytton in 1839 said "The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword". ( I just looked this up on Wikopedia this verry minute)

Regards.
