Hi,
On my C43 I have 2 electric cooling fans, recently i have noticed when running the A/C that only one has been running instead of both of them i removed the guard over them and the one that is ok turns very freely but the other though still will turn is not so free, so it looks like i,ll have to replace it though i may try taking it to bits to fix it if possible. The fans appear to be fitted to the front of the radiator, can any one tell me wether i need to remove the radiator from the car to replace the fan or can they be removed just by removing the guard in front of the them, any help is much appreciated.

Are you sure they're both supposed to run?

Normal drill (not Mercedes specific) with a/c is that one fan runs all the time and the other cuts in as needed.

On the 202 there are single stage, and 2 stage on the later cars, first stage cuts in at 100c and second stage 110c.

You do not remove the rad, single stage with 2 fans, have a belt to drive the second one

Hi,
No they definetly run at the same time (they always use to), they are "intially" triggered by a raise in refrigerant pressure on the A/C system, though i believe they can be called upon to run to cool the engine.

You would be better off joining up 12v to the M4 right hand fan if it is not working, the left hand fan is in two stages,by switching the voltage applied and the right motor comes on in stage 3, they are both driven from the N65/1 air module

9v applied in stage 1 and 12v in stage 2

I take it you mean to put 12V direct to the fan to ensure wether thats the fault, if it runs with a direct 12V supply it will be the control circuitry to it, if thats the case where in the car is the "N65/1 air module" in the ECU box maybe?

the box is just behind the bumper more to the nearside or just under the wheel arch.

Yes join it up to 12v and that will prove the point

How is the weight loss going Andy

Thanks for your concern,
I haven,t been to any meets since Portland so I have not seen any one recently though i did pop in to see Cole the other day, but i anticipate being on this diet for a good few months yet, which means i,ll probably be on it over christmas, which i,m dreading, my target wieght is still a way off yet.
