Two Questions. One about using on petrol one on charging cables.

Hi I have just bought a 2017 Petrol Hybrid. I know who in there right mind would buy a 2017 hybrid? Well it has put me back in love with MBs as my 2011 E200 CGI was.... well anyway had it for 8 years and lost the affection for it.

So my questions are, If I just run the car in petrol only mode will this be bad for the battery if I never charge it?
Also if I do want to charge it, are all Grannie charging cables the same, I believe that there is a type 1 and type 2, as the person I bought it off was using a fast charger and kept it for his new car.

I have found the answer to my second question. The difference between 1 and 2 is the plug type.

I don't know exactly which Hybrid you have - I'm presuming it's a plug-in . . .
If it is and the set-up is like mine (an E300e) then I presume that you will have to use it as a hybrid (which is what it was made for . . ) - mine, at least, does not have a 'classic' starter, but is equipped with a starter/generator connected to the high-voltage battery. Which means that if the HV battery is flat, then you have no means of starting the ICE engine. Your car's manual should give you the information.

Thank you. Mine is a 350e and you can use it in just petrol mode and never use the electric. The battery stays part charged by the braking of the car. I do not have a charger cable yet so have not used electric. If I fully charged the car and never turned on the electric it would probably stay fully charged by braking. The reason I am asking this is because if the PHEV battery goes 'tits up' Then it is around 12G on a new battery or throw the car away as it will not start, but I am trying to find out and even my local MB cannot answer this. Will the battery degrade slower if I never charge it or is it better to charge it.?

I'm not sure that anyone can answer your last question, but it seems counter-productive to buy a PHEV car and then never use it in electric mode. It seems a shame never to enjoy driving in electric. Are you sure that there's not a cable tucked away somewhere in the car ? If not, a granny cable should only cost about £100+ and would allow you to use the car as intended.

No cable. I may buy one and give it a go. I do not understand why no one can answer if the Hybrid battery fails can you still use the car in petrol mode. It seems ridiculous to me that the cannot be started by the normal battery and a total Fluff up of a design. Or maybe that is the point. around £11,000 for a new battery or replace the car. This is the 21st century, a simple starter motor to the Petrol engine couldn't be that difficult.
