Are there any problems that could arise by me fitting 245/40/18 Michelin Sport Contact Tyres on the front wheels and 285/35/18 Pirelli Zero Rosso Tyres on the rear wheels? I have some gorgeous Brabus wheels and have no tyres and need some quite quickly.

No, but be aware that you will have different grip characteristics on your front and rear axles. Side to side mixing of tyres is not to be done however.

It is not the end of the world with those tyres you asked about, you would have to be pushing it hard in the rain to notice anything, also you might not notice anything, we were just pointing out the effects that could take place.

Where are the pics then

Personally speaking I would not mix those tyres given the difference in the compounds. That said, if you drove carefully until you did get the same compound tyres all-round then you should be OK, just watch the grip in the wet!!

Thanks for your great advice everybody (TV, it's great to have you back). After what has been said, I should be okay as 95% of the time I cossett my baby. That said, what's the point of having it if you don't use it (the other 5%)?

I will be careful until I get matching tyres all round. By the way, what's a good tyre to get for my car?

I can now recommend the brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric. Just had them fitted to my CLK430 and the road noise that was so prevalent on the old GSD3 V-grooves has all but disappeared, the grip is superb and I'll report back on the wear rating at a later date.

Also, find a local tyre supplier that will price match (inlcuding Internet prices) and you'll be quids in!!

Chris, I like your idea. Can you give me a better insight as to why?

I've got 245 /45 17's all round on mine - Bridgestones - which work well the benefit of having the same size all around is that you can rotate rears to front and vice versa

I took Chris' advice and fitted 245s with 275s. When I drove away from the tyre fitting garage there was a ticking noise so I returned and they took the locking bolts out and it stopped. I am assuming that they were slightly too long and were catching on the handbrake mechanism as I've seen on the forum previously.

The problem I have now is that there is a kind of rubbing noise when driving and when I brake it gets louder as though the tyres are flat. I have removed the bolts on the back wheel and rotated it when off the ground and the noise disappears. bolts back in and it returns. The original bolts were longer and never did it and there is no signs of anything rubbing. ET of the wheels is 35 on the new ones and 34 on the old - hardly any difference. The bolts don't seem as though the end face is rubbing, so what could the problem be?

I'm stumped if it isn't the bolts fractionally too long and feel as though I've done the wrong thing. They look fantastic though.

The official Mercedes procedure for fitting AMG wheels with 245 and 275 section tyres states that the inside of the wheel arch should be rolled up to avoid tyre contact problems, worth giving the outer edge of the tyres a good inspection to see if they have been rubbing.
