Hi: i purchased my first Mercedes in January 2023. Nice car but i find the ownesr manual infuriating. Could someone please tell me the correct tyre pressures in psi for a 2016 E220d cabriolet fitted with 19" wheels? Looking at the petrol cap(?) it indicates 270kp on the front and 350kp on the rear which equates in the real world to 39 and 51psi respectively? Seems a bit high as no car i have owned has tyres approaching these levels or am i misinterpeting.

Thanks and regards
Steve

Are you looking at the fully loaded numbers?

I'd be looking at ~32psi front and ~33psi rear - from the below

One note is that to get the lower CO2 figures and higher MPG tyre pressures have been getting higher ~42psi Front and 49psi Rear also from the below when fully loaded

This is interesting. So are you saying that manufacturers now are increasing pressures just to get better scores? For instance for my B200 on 18" tyres the recommendation is 38 psi front and 34 psi rear. But if I preferred comfort, what pressures do people suggest, without sacrificing safety of course.

Yes, try dropping the pressures by a couple of psi and see how it goes

A word of caution though - another reason for higher pressures is to protect the wheels from pothole damage - the impact is passed into the suspension - much better to have lower pressures and decent sized sidewalls but fashion dictates huge alloys and rubber bands wrapped around the outsides... :(

Thanks for the comments. I have looked again at the filler cap where it states 235/ 35 R19 & 255/30/R19 pressures appear to be 270kp (39psi) front and rear with two people and some luggage in the car and these raise to 300kp front (44psi) and 350kp (51psi) rear with four people and lots of luggage.

I used to get ~83mpg on a decent run in my W213 E220d…. I had my pressures quite high..;)

You should really be looking at your present tyre wear before deciding what way to go. Is your wear even across the whole tyre? Wear on edges or wear in the centre of the tyre? I would be looking at that before raising or lowering pressures.
