Tyre Recommendatons please! - 275 35 19

Hi all.

I need to replace the rear tyres on a CL500 C215.

It currently has Conti Sport Contact 6 on all four corners and I'm thinking of sticking with those, but it got me thinking if you guys may know of anything else I should consider?

I have always been a fan of Uniroyal Rainsport and the new Rainsport 5 is available in th size I need.

I understand that tyres are very subjective but as ever, any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I would stick with the Conti's unless you have any issues with them, but I am sure you will get many responses from members with reasons why not

Just put Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 6 on mine, massive rim protector

B Fuel and A wet rated against the Conti at E fuel and A wet

The SC6 has been superseeded by the SC7 now

Goodyear eagle asymmetric and Michelins pilot sport are my favourites for performance in all weathers and last very well over all other brands over years of testing.

The last conti i tested was the 5. The 7 should be good as Michelin and Goodyear were awesome before and just kept upping their game so anything else would need to take a leap to compete.

What am I talking about I have asymmetric 6's lol they were much cheaper than sc7 that I was going for and they come up more comfortable and quieter than the sc7

I stayed with Continental and went for a pair of Conti SportContact 7’s - so far so good!

A little late to the party. Even when replacing old tyres with new Pirellis PZ I barely noticed the difference. My conclusion was that Pirelli PZ were as good as a set of very worn out tyres.

I like conti SC (quite/comfort/handling) but found they would not last long. Bridgestone Potenzas ended up as a favourite because of rim protectors, handling, low noise levels and long life.

Right now I am working through a set of Accelra PHI. They came on the car in nearly-unused condition so I suspect the dealer fitted them. At £80 for 285x30x19 they are very cheap comparatively and they are not three times worse than tyres that cost three times as much. I have tested the grip in wet, dry, cold, warm, emergency stopping distances and found them to be a surprise indeed. This has raised questions in my mind about the £200-£300 a corner tyres I used to buy due to FUD. Forums are echo chambers for opinions and I now wonder if I was spending £1500 on tyres because everyone always said:

"Only part of the road that touches the car, why scrimp on the costs".

Accelera tyres are death traps in the wet at half tread . I had them on a fwd VW Passat . Car had to be pointing straight to put any kind of throttle on.

It is always good to hear varying opinions.

I am well aware of that website, not ALL the reviews are bad on there. I did read it before I picked up the car. I asked the dealer to change the tyres before I collected the car, he didn't. So I thought I would tread carefully (pun intended). As the year progressed towards winter my apprehension increased.

However, 12 months of driving the car and we did have extremely wet days last winter, and I live in the midlands and I have zero issues with these tyres. They are absolutely certainly not as bad as the bad reviews.

Proof is in the pudding and you can post as many comments from others as you like but it will not change the experience I had. You may have read that I said I tested the stopping and the grip in cold and wet conditions. I have 10-15,000 miles on these tyres so far. Tread is still astonishing, almost no wear as yet.

I stand by what I say. I have had NO issues in any conditions with these tyres, and I am astonished how long they are lasting. I have also had more than 20 years of buying "£200 - £350 a tyre" tyres for various cars.

I imagine if you drive extremely fast you might find the limits of the tyre and then they might be dangerous, or perhaps when low on tread, but with over 10,000 miles done on them in my ownership they seem like they might last a very long time. For me they have raised serious questions about how much FUD goes into tyre marketing and purchasing.
