Tyre removal/replacement cost? (subject edited)

Removal/Fitting £15
Alloys £1.50
Disposal £1.50
VAT @20%
Total £21.60 x 4 = £86.40

This is an Evans Halshaw Ford garage

I see other garages offering down to £8 for removal fitting but the other charges are the same. ("Is this a rip-off" - deleted)

My interest is regarding fitting/removing winter tyres so this cost will be twice yearly.

How can it be a "rip-off"? All the charges are shown upfront, you choose whether to use the service.

My dealer charges £85 to fit/balance 4 tyres.

Would you need the Disposal element if you are swapping tyres?

I would recommend getting a cheap second set of rims. Mounting and demounting tyres is not the best thing to do.

Sorry, I should not have used those words and yes you are correct that buying a set of wheels would only incur one charge per tyre set.

I wonder why wheel & tyre companies don't offer to supply four wheels already mounted?

Yup! I thought exactly the same when I had just purchased my tyres, could have got new wheels as well for very little extra (and no tyre fitting charges!!)

Of course the situation with MyTyres wheels+tyres offer, is made worse because their package does not appear to offer my first choice which is Vredestein 245/45/R17 99v XL

Most small tyre places now charge £20 to fit your tyre and balance the wheel, sometimes less when there are 4, and why not,,,you have bought the tyres elsewhere

I complained when Costco put their charge up to £7 a couple of years ago - it was just £3 until then!
