I`ve recently bought a 1998 model C240 Elegance saloon and I want new tyres all round. Would be pleased to hear of recommendations......I`ll do no more than 5k miles a year so ride and noise is more important than long wear and obviously price is important. Any info will be helpful. :p

Try Nokian Tyres, made in Scandinavia, they warm-up very quickly, enhancing grip in our cool conditions. Also excellent wet weather grip. Did very well against other more expensive brands! Can be a bit noisy though.

I have had a set of 225/45x17 on my Avensis (sad I know) since Dec '01 +- 35000 miles, are still good for another 10000 miles I reckon.

By the way I've got the NRV's. Excellent, and not one pucture!!!

They are great on braking and cornering, but spin a bit on hard exceleration in the wet. Brilliant in the Dry. Definately worth a look at the price!!!

Ciao.

Thanks

Thanks chaps and chapesses.....any more thoughts gratefully received....isn`t terrible that there`s nowhere at all to be able to read a true analysis of different tyres on at least a range of aspects referring to noise, wet and dry braking, cornering, wear, price etc.

For those who offered an opinion I bought Toyo CF 1 and for the first time used an internet based mobile fitting service e tyres. After only 100 miles mixed use I`m pleased with my choice little noise, good comfort and performance [dry only so far] good. Fitting service excellent......cheaper than any other supplier I contacted. :D

I swear by my Michelin Pilot Premacies

I thought that's what was on my car.....great......£140 odd pounds .... great .......

 Till I re-checked...... Pilot Sport .... £237 odd each (without fitting on the net).
Seems their sportier and uni directional.
No complaints about them though. Seem very grippy, but haven't had to put them to the test

Ive just had verdestein sporttrac's fitted to my E240. First impressions are that they are quieter and grippier than the continentals though not quite so supple in the ride. They are the first unidirectional tyres I've had. Not bad at £93 each. Apparently the tread pattern is by a designer called Guargio or something. Not sure how I feel about that. What does a clothes designer know about high speed water dispersal and cornering ?
Pretty though!
