My tyres currently are Front - 225/45 R18 95Y. BACK - 245/40 R18 97Y.
I have Bridgestone potenza.
My car is a c class sport 20 reg. I am currently shopping for new tyres with the help of family. Here is where my issue lies. Firstly we are disagreeing over the speed rating. I want to keep the same as I currently have. They have said that a 91V is sufficient. But everything I have read says that I have to have the same speed rating. And now they also say that I can have 225/45 tyres on the back as well as the front. Which is different to what I currently have. Now I want to keep everthing the same. But, am I wrong here? Does it matter about the speed rating or tyre size being different?

No I don't know what size wheels you have at the back, but they might very well be wider than those at the front, hence the wider tyres.

Of course it does ... assuming the speed rating of those already fitted is the correct rating

If you look in your handbook it’ll give you the various tyre sizes that were available for your car, it does depend on the alloys you’ve got, but your the one that’s driving it and not your family, so I’d stick to the manufacturer recomended sizes, just pick the brand you want for your budget and don’t go for run flat tyres

Yes ....but as Matty suggest above, the recommended tyre sizes & speed rating will be in the handbook (assuming you have one)
Various tyre places on line will give you recommended tyres when you input your reg number on their site.

Good question. I’ve just been reading and it doesn’t specify. So hopefully the discount will still apply.

I had a similar conundrum with E-Class (W213) tyres - 245/35R19 front and 275/39R19 (I think) on the rear - lower spec models ran with one size all-round on 18” wheels.

It’s not just about the speed ratings/profiles/widths of the tyres, you need to be certain that IF you fit a different combination to that which was OE for your car, that you MUST tell your insurance company. If the tyre fitters (KwikFit, etc) tell you that it’s OK then you shouldn’t have a problem. Also, you should not expect to pay a higher premium on your insurance provided the tyres are road legal and the fitters (the professionals) say they are OK. If you do fit a different combination and have the misfortune to be involved in an insurance claim, then it’s a point of wriggle for the insurance company. Beware!

I’ve used them for price comparisons, not bought from them though. Asda Tyres have been good for me recently or Oppneo and MyTyres.
Just don’t go under manufacturer recommended speed or load ratings as insurance companies can (and do) use that to get out of paying, if anything untoward was to happen.

Yea I’m gonna just put my foot down and get the same once’s as I already have. I’m not sure if they’ve ever been changed since the car was bought new.

No, and I wouldn't buy them anyway. Good tyres are your only contact with the road surface and I wouldn't scimp on quality.

Royal Black tyres receive mixed reviews, praised for excellent value, quietness, and decent performance in mild conditions, especially their All-Season (A/S) models, but criticized for potentially poor grip in heavy rain, uneven wear, and being less robust than premium brands, making them a budget-friendly choice for lighter vehicles or moderate climates, not extreme conditions.

Nexen have been mentioned and I'd add Falken and Goodyear Efficientgrip for good quality decent tyres.
Do yourself a favour and avoid the Royal Black brand.
I'd also add my recommendation for Asda tyres. The price they quote is the price you pay, no extras. You choose a local garage for fitting .

I changed our SLC wheels from the 18" staggered to the same 17" front & back & put all season on them. The 17" are on the approved SLC list.
I did the same with the 212 E350CDI for the winter wheels. 18" staggered down to 17" the same front & back. Again no issues.
