Anyone know what this is? I found it kicking around, but I've no idea what it is and whether I need it. I know it's definitely MB, has part no. A 172 823 00 30

The 'lid' flips open, hence the name.

OK, so I now know it's got something to do with a mobile phone. Wonder what phone, or what purpose the UFO serves...?

It looks like some sort of cradle that will hold the phone vertically in front of the driver The lid will clip in/slide into/behind some part of the dash to hold it in place would be my guess
