Looking at renewing my breakdown service and looking around

Was with RAC - £120 last year for Roadside, recovery, onward travel and cover at home

RAC want £164 for the same cover this year :eek:o_O

Going via topcashback AA and RAC are both ~£240 before cashback and ~£160 afterwards

Had a check and the below from LV Britannia rescue appears to give the same cover...

Having had call to use the RAC for the first time in my life last year I would say avoid them like the plague.

The poor service was bad enough but the incessant lies were a shock.

It wasn't until I checked out with the people concerned that I found out it was not new or unusual.

They did send me a miserable £65 cheque which in no way reflected the issues but like most, the will to pursue them waned very quickly as life rolled on.

Always worth calling them and asking if they can reduce the cost, Ive done that with the AA every year and they've reduced the price up to nearly a half most times, worth a try.

I have full cover (for a few years now) with Britannia as part of my LV motor insurance, but have personal rather than vehicle cover so we're both covered whichever is driving whichever of our 2 cars plus as passengers in someone else's car.Have called them out a few times and they've been good.

Check out the onward travel cover, sometimes this means being towed to the edge of the tow truck driver’s area and then dumped to wait for another driver, then another etc.

I always choose personal cover as I’ve so many vehicles… appreciate the feedback.

Looking at reviews they’re no better (or worse) than any of the others… they appear to do the above and European cover for £85 for 12 months which I might just go for - whilst my bike is covered by BMW it’s always worth having options when abroad.

I’m with AA £240 a year and get the full works for me and Mrs. It’s rather expensive tho
Use top cashback and you’ll get at least £80 of that back in ~3 months after taking the policy out.

Aviva are quite good on RAC full cover if you insure with them of course. From memory the W212 insurance is £218 for <5k miles and full breakdown cover (minus European) is £118

I have a 3 year maintenance contract on both cars so I am covered there, plus I have Nationwide Bank breakdown as well.
However I have been driving for 57 years, & have never had to call them out.

I've the RAC deal through my bank (with worldwide travel insurance).
I'm completely unimpressed with the RAC and am also trying to find a better replacement.
RAC wait times are diabolical and when you're broken down you just want someone to get on with it.

Disappointing to hear recovery is now relay with them all (used to just be the AA that did that).
My RAC cover includes Europe but you have to be careful of vehicle age and value with that service (particularily recovery).
Me and my partner have personal cover because of 2 cars, 1 van, 2 motorbikes, oh and if I'm a passenger with anyone else or borrowing anyone else's vehicle.

Which magazine have the AA as recommended and the RAC at or near the bottom. The only reason I hadn't jumped to the AA was the relay thing, but if they all behave like that it ceases to be a reason not to.

I was going to send them all an identical email with a list of questions to evaluate which would suit me best, but they don't provide email addresses and force you to use there messaging service to communicate, which is a pain.
Questions like:
Age, value of vehicle exclusions.
Vehicle types included (Vito)
Recovery or relay.
Punctures.
Recovery after an accident. (some won't since they don't regard it as breakdown) and I don't necessarily want it taken immediately somewhere out of my control by my insurance company's breakdown 'service'.

All I want is for it to be fixed on the side of the road or, recovered home for me to deal with later.

One of my main problems, the R.A.C persistently lied that they had instructed the "next leg" company so I took to asking who they had booked and rung up the alleged instructed company.

Needless to say, the companies involved had not been instructed so I rang the R.A.C back and they lied again and again so I just kept calling back to say I had checked and one operator told me it was common practice to say an onward contractor had been booked when they hadn't.

I was eventually taken home in a Taxi and my car was supposed to be placed in a secure compound overnight.
It wasn't.

I have no reason to believe they aren't still lying to their customers.

My experience talking to others that have been recovered is that all of them are the same unfortunately - I'm going to go with the below

Is that with LV Russ? Have you got a link, I'm stuggling to find that price if it's LV?
