Important Information On Replacement Licences!



Basically the DVLA are making mistakes when you send off your licence for address change, or 10 year limit on photo licences. People who passed their test and automatically got Group BE, C1, C1E, D1 and D1E find the licence comes back WITHOUT these on. These are groups for towing, 7.5 tonne, minibus, which 'newer passers' do not have.


Take a copy of your licence before you send it off, otherwise you need to take another test!


My new licence came back without and I can no longer drive a 7 ton truck, I had the right when I moved back from Sweden as I moved myself, now its gone

I've read examples of this elsewhere. I believe that some of the "loss of rights" is due to the EU Drivers Licence Harmonisation program whereby what used to be known as "grandfather rights" to drive certain vehicle groups because they were part of another, different, vehicle class when you took your driving test in a particular country have disappeared.

However, you are absolutely right that DVLA is arbitrarily removing rights to other groups which are not part of the harmonisation program, nor were granted under "grandfather rights". There's another forum I frequent where one of the members who has held a full motorcycle for more than 20 years and who rides a motorcycle every day surrendered his paper licence and received back a new two-part licence without an entitlement to Group A. DVLA's response to his protestations that he was licenced to drive motorcycles and had been for more than two decades was that he would have to prove his entitlement by providing the original test pass certificate. After 20+ years? What a bunch of clowns...

Suggestion: get the copy certified by someone appropriate, i.e. anyone who is acceptable for certification of a passport photo/application. Just in case you end up in a dispute...

Fortunately we have friends who are: A High Court Judge, a Barrister and a CPS lawyer - one of them should do..!!
