Was in Paris earlier this month and the adoption of hybrids was very noticeable as in it felt like the majority of vehicles were.

At least sat in the still horrendous traffic it seemed so....

No reduction in vehicle numbers though, so if it is ancillary emmissions then no real change

Of course what they’re not realising is that with the advent of home working, they’re actively putting in place barriers for people to visit London and spend money there, other than it being the capital.

Doesn’t take long for businesses to up stumps to more attractive locales.
And the planned system will undoubtedly follow em. I only visit London to get in out preferably out of the country and I have not the faintest interest in £8 pints 5 quid coffees or 10 quid sarnies. Or water that already left three blades. So I ain't goin there anyway. Right now I changing flights to go wagga Brussels Brussels Bristol so I can avoid the place and get out of airport an hr faster.

From what I see walking Paris they are a bit more organised on charging points. And duracel subsidies. My neighbour bought a duracel Renault at about 400 a month. And change at 3vyrcwith no battery costs. But the car is revolting, like a tuperware box.

The media is talking up a fire sale of non ULEZ cars in the south east as Londoners ditch them.....
I have a friend that is ditching London for the south coast for this reason (as well as his views on a property dip/crash in London)
Yeah, I was considering ditching my virtually valueless and non compliant 2009 CLS, which owes me nothing, and buying an equivalent new electric E class (EQE), which would set me back around 90K. Factor in the massive depreciaton and I think I'll try sticking with my CLS, just pay the ULEZ charge when I need to use it. Cheaper by a long way.

And all said, moving to the south coast is possibly an overreaction :)

This would be the end of my C350 CDI ownership. I have most of my family inside the M25, we see them often, and are there for days at a time. Another good reason to go for a C43, and the wife would be happy as this is cheaper than the C63!
Or E43 estate….

There are many factors (potential house price dip, strikes impacting travel, Khanism) but the Ulez impact on the three cars in their household is a genuine factor.

In other news , rich London folk over reactining is hardly unforeseeable though is it.

Which is exactly why HS2 is being built. To get rich or highly paid workers in and out of the city. Sell a pokey London flat for £1.5 million Buy a five bed house in the Midlands for half that then put the rest in the bank. Use HS2 to commute to central London quicker than from the South East.

Imo it’s all different forms of tyranny by the powers.

Can’t blame those who have the choice to change vehicles or just move out of London. I do feel for those who are less fortunate and just working to keep above water and will continue to find it that much harder. All the eco bullxxxx is purely bullxxxx, it’s nothing than the new form of tyrants bandwagon rolling.

Want to reduce emissions… simple get people out of cars and onto bicycles like Helsinki, Amsterdam, Copenhagen etc. This will not generate revenue for tyrants but be awesome for the civilians as it will improve and prevent some illnesses, get people more active, stop the car being used when it doesn’t need to be etc. Anyone who thinks electric cars etc are about saving the planet are delusional. They are no more green than any other car.

I know some ex colleagues who live in London who bought really old classic land rovers and beetles circa 1970 year models and ditched their new cars even where they were ulez compliant. This way they avoid road tax also as well as being ulez free and not being some Duracell twaddle.

Not lookin to offend but not great with suger coating unforunatly the wife wanted bolt hole in UK. And recent French house became to much, with me here. But I all working life in Africa and don't do small claustrophobic spaces and b Palace is somewhat out of my price limits.
Also too many restrictions in UK can't say, can't do, can't drive..
I have found rural France (in more ways than 1) to be the closest I can get to the UK and still feel free! Whilst not living above my means. I wud feel exact same about Paris.

Think that London shud be a separate pt of UK. I sick of how much cash flows there. Yet rest of UK tax payers have to cough up for it. Hs2 another f up I think, built mainly to get people in and out of London, who can't afford to live there!

To be honest, I've driven around most of the towns and UK cities, cannot say I'd like to live in many of them. There are very nice parts of the Capital, I suppose it's different for me, with family history, and family that live in one of the boroughs. But, I have to admit it, I do like leaving to come home.

Not a bad idea. Even if/when they remove the exemption it would hold its value.

A W123 or early W126 would be awesome. Preventive maintenance would keep it mechanically reliable - it’s just the thought of an impromptu restoration project that puts me off. You know how it goes once you start digging into old cars. A 50p sized bubble turns into an new sill which turns into a year long full body restoration!

See this is the correct era in my book. Decent build, relatively simple to maintain. As for the rust may be find a good base car and then have it treated.

We had a customer come to us from London for tyres on clapped out w126 500 SEL. There were dink s and dents on the body and a few rust spots. The owner said it’s too big for him, too big for London and in its current state he thought it was scrap. He said take it for free but we gave him £500. As a bit of old times family fun, we stripped the exterior and the rust wasn’t as bad as we assumed so was easily treated, body sanded back and in our garage we painted it ourselves, added an AMG kit from the USA, sourced a cream leather interior and its epic! I still look at the SEL and SEC models but for me it’s case of I hate taking anything I like out of the drive as other folks just dink them and too many idiots to risk having them crash into you. So much more classy than the newer ones imo. There’s a chap a few streets away who has a lovely blue 300 SEL and it’s mega, looks as shiny and great as my w221 but his just has that nostalgic presence to boot….

There’s a another chap locally whose had 3 x 7 series circa 1987/1989, 2 were 735i’s and one alpina B12 for about 20yrs. Once of the 735i’s was crashed into and he replaced with a 2015 5 series as a daily beater. The other 2 he says he loves, still going strong, great visibility, they have a soul and he’s found it hard to buy anything he likes as much. He’s now nervous to take out the old 7’s due to what happen to one of them so only uses it occasionally and has numerous dent pullers out following idiots dinking them in car parks over the years.

One of my all time favourite Mercedes and the first that really got me interested in the brand.
