2005 E320 CDI Elegance Estate
I have a September 2005 E320 CDI Estate (a W211 I think it is referred to as). After cleaning the car at the weekend the rear head restraints would not fold down when I pressed the button on the centre console. I can raise/lower and fold the outer two restraints manually but not the centre one which now obscures my view.

My first thought was a blown fuse. Does anyone know if there is a fuse for these head restraints and if so where I would find it?

Failing that does anyone know if/how I can either fold or remove the centre head restraint manually so it is not blocking my view until I get this sorted?

Any help gratefully received.

To take it out you just pull it up and off, have you tried to push it down so that engages in the lowering mechanism

Malcolm,

The middle head restraint does not seem to raise and lower like the outer ones - it just seems to flip up or fold down.

I'll try giving it a tug to see what happens.

Thanks

Keith

I spoke to my local dealer who confirmed that the middle head restraint cannot be either removed or folded manually. They suggested I take the car in and said it would either be a faulty switch or something to do with the cable guide to the head restraint. I had already checked the fuse that controls the rear head restraints.

As it turned out it was neither. The feature had someone been disabled in the software and was easily switched back on. How it got disabled is a bit of a mystery, but at least it is sorted now.
