Hello all . I just serviced my w210 e320 cdi at the weekend and i must say i was surprised at how easy this car is to work on ! What i did noticed was that as i got under it to inspect the dreaded front crossmember i noticed that the front undercover? or spashguard was missing . The larger one coverering the gearbox was still there though.Do you need this cover as i have covered approx 30k without it!

There should be 3 covers, which one are you missing? Dont think they do much apart from keeping engine clean and noise suppression.

Hi new here was there any rust on the closing plate on the cross member, i have a 210 and it was rusted through had it replaced they are only about 20 quid from the dealers but you have to insist they sell you one as they are very reluctant to. They are a consumable and are supposed to be replaced, as long as the member is ok you should be fine.

You should get the cover, the car is a lot noisier without it. It will also soak up any bits of oil that will leak out from time to time, rather than it getting on the road.

Thanks guys . Didnt see any serious rust on the crossmember . Ill have to order the covers because the engine is slightly noisey . I think im only missing the front cover that bolts to the crossmember under the sump.

Hi

The front one from memory is the one that goes right out to the wheelarches, it doesnt go under the sump. The one that goes under the sump is the smallest of the 3 and cheapest.

Hi

The gaiter where the steering shaft goes through the bulkhead tears and can make them sound noisey. 10% veg oil really quietens them down too.
