As a lifelong BMW fan the last thing I expected a week ago was to be joining an MB forum, but...

Last Saturday my wife's old Daewoo was hit by a combine harvester while parked up outside. It's tatty and 2004 and going to be written off. So time to look for a replacement.

She decides she'd like a Mercedes (thank you Janis Joplin!) and, after a few days poring through ads we find a very tidy looking 2003 C270CDI just down the coast from us with about 126k miles, over 12 months MOT, no advisories, very clean MOT history, and a price that meant we didn't need to wait for insurers to pay out!

The only (tongue in cheek) downside it it's in metallic beige (Cubanite Silver), which I actually quite like! It'll make a nice stablemate for my '93 525TD daily hack but, the I'm feeling a tiny bit jealous at the moment!

Only have one photo so far because we have to get the Daewoo out of the way before we can park it round here but really looking forward to getting to grips with it properly later this week

Thanks all.

It does look like pretty much the ideal balance of performance & economy. Thought my 5 series did OK for that but the extra go in this is an eye opener and (at least on paper) economy should be better too. Like I said, feeling a little of the green eyed monster right now!

The only slight pain is that insurers won't release her no claims until the claims settled (despite hers being parked, the whole thing on CCTV, and the combine driver being picked up by police for failing to stop). So the £163 quotes we'd got are going to be about £360 this year.

I guess that's still not bad for full leather and auto headrests, and should drop like a stone next year :)

Welcome, any Photos please ?
Only the one in the original post at the moment I'm afraid.

Have had to leave it several miles away for now until we can get the Daewoo out of the way later this week and only thought to grab the one yesterday.

Will be updating with plenty (and, no doubt, a good list of snags) around Thursday once the shuffle's been sorted.

Crikey , read this thread title and thought someone had dumped an e class on yiyr drive with keys in the ignition
I wish!

Although, "someone drove a harvester into your car while parked, leaving you free to buy a C class" is pretty close :D

Bring it back quick, otherwise someone else will join the forum like “unexpected new owner “

Thanks.

When we started looking it was the one that seemed to stand out for overall use. The fact this happened to be the closest available as well was a bonus!

Hello and welcome, Joe, but be careful because Mercedes ownership can be addictive and a number of us here came over from the dark side originally!

I must admit, even without really getting to play yet, I'm half wondering what the going rate for an "E34 525TD, very low mileage, full MOT but would benefit from some tlc" is

Try a facelift 211 for a while and then you probably wouldn't too worried.
