I love my 2000 automatic A160 elegance model but for the last 4 months it has been with Mercedes-Benz. I took it in with a small oil leak and mentioned to them that when I pull off from a stationary position on an incline the vehicle sometimes has no power then when I lift the accelarator and put my foot on the on it again the power kicks in.
The vehicle did not have problems changing gears at all. Now after 4 months with Mercedes the vehicle has an even bigger oil leak, they cannot pin point where the leak is coming from inside the gearbox although they say they have stripped it several times. And they want me to pay R 28 000 for a new gearbox. The initial service already cost me R15 000. The car is only worth R90 000.
They say there is a small vibration in the gearbox but that they cannot pinpoint where it is coming from? Before that they tested the torque converter and that is fine, they also tried to tell me that there might be a hairline crack in the casing of the gearbox which sounded a bit silly to me.
Where could the gearbox be leaking from?
