Hi All

After three days at the main dealer, the problem with the 1400rpm idle appears cured. Software was OK, fitted new throttle made no difference. Tried new battery, bingo. all done under warranty. S-A-M/U-N-I-T pretty much hit the nail on the head! Thanks. ECU compensates for low voltage with faster idle, typically 900ish rpm, but if the battery has a fault it over compensates and gives the symptoms described in my earlier thread. Also occurs on R-Class and GL's.

Thanks again for the help, much appreciated.

Regards

thanks for posting this, its always good to see what fixed the problem

batteries are a big cause of issues at this time of the year because the extreme cold often means heated rear window, warm seats, blower motor and all sorts of electrics turned on to 'warm' the car/people in side it, this causes a big drain which on old or faulty batteries can result in your type of issues,

in the summer, the same thing most likely wouldn't happen at all on the same battery

cheers
