Fellow W219 owners,

I have discovered a DRL that can further enhance the look of our already beautiful W219. The item is onerous but I believe it will give our car that modern look. I have been in contact with the seller and I managed to ask if the item is a 100% fit i.e. no error message, cutting of cables etc, and he confirmed that it requires none of the above predicament. It shares the same components as the W212 DRL and I for once believe that it is exactly the same product as the W212 but slightly redesigned to fit the W219 AMG bumper. For those interested, we could do a group buy and get the seller to do us a good deal. He sells two types of DRL for the W219. One that looks like the W212 DRL and the other that compliments the already existing oval foglamps. The seller is German and here is his response to my question:

'Dear Sir or Madam,

the day driving lights LED for AMG CLS w219 bumper Suitably like Mercedes E class,

they agree with frame and day driving lights LED with cable harness and steuegeräten with it of no electronic mistakes angezeit becomes, we it sells shares offiziel all Mercedes - Benz trader from there are admitted the also German safety standards authority.

then dispatch to England no problem we will dispatch with DHL, because of carriage request they divide to her address of delivery with it we offer can make
.'

Find enclosed few pictures of the DRL fitted to a W219 AMG bumper.

Here is the end result once fitted to a W219 AMG bumper.

Let me know those down for it. Thanks for reading!

I have managed to look on his website. He doesn't have anything for the W216. But I have managed to source another website where you can order the DRL for your W216. I think the project is worth it.

I'd be interested.

Isn't that a 218 in the picture though?

How's the power get to the lights to make them DRL as opposed to fog lights?

No, the last picture is a W212 with hockey stick DRL. The W219 will look the same when finished.

They are plugged exactly to the existing fog connector. The DRL comes with 2 piece unit and sam recognition. It is a straight swap. From the price as well, I can tell it is a genuine stuff. Not these cheap ebay DRLs that cost £20. The complete set of this kit is €300. I know it's not meant for everyone but I for my part will buy it because I seek exclusivity.

I believe the DRL power on automatically at dusk once you leave the switch on 'auto'. I don't know how the DRL power on the during day time. I don't know if you need to activate a function via 'star' to enable a permanent function of the DRL.

@Malcolm,

You could check out Chris The Swede's website. The Swedish guy on mbworld.org. He operates his own Mercedes online shop and I believe he has done a conversion involving the W216. He swapped the W216 oval foglamps and replaced them with the all recent DRL. Awesome job at the end!!!!

Used to have a C63...
On both my W203 and the W219, the fog lights come on when I lock / unlock the car... So there must be power there... (Besides me switching them on, obviously!)

True and CAN switched, the same as cornering functions

The 219 has cornering function, apparently... I still haven't done a night-blatt to test them however!

Just out of interest, is the cornering function on the fog lamp, or headlamps? I guess if the former, then DRLs are out of the question!

It is the fog lamps, but this feature you should be able to disable on STAR

I believe you have got the cornering illumination option. My fogs light up as well as soon as I use my key fob to unlock my car at night. I don't know if the DRLs retain that option.

Fogs coming on when locking/unlocking is a Convenience feature switchable via the cluster menu. It doesn't signify cornering lights, which usually only came with bi-xenon headlights. Cornering function can be enabled/disabled via Star.
DRLs should only illuminate when the engine is running.

The cornering illumination option lights up as soon as you stir the steering wheel to a right/left direction. The option is on your fogs and not on the headlamps. I guess the DRLs defeat the purpose of the cornering option, but on the flip side, you don't get day running lights with your oval fogs.

Cornering fogs have a different lens/reflector setup to throw extra light to the side. They also illuminate when the indicator is used. All this only happens at speeds below 25mph.
Some CLS come with Active Curve headlamps whereby the headlamp swivels in response to steering input. This is sometimes incorrectly referred to as cornering lamps.
