Hi allm

I am looking at buying some uprated lowering springs for the SL because I find it tends to wallow, has anyone any ideas on where I can puchase these.

Thanks

Hi all,

Have purchased a new set of springs, I take it it is just a case of undoing the top of the shock and the wishbone should drop enough to remove the spring.
Your ideas would be appreciated.

I know nothing about SL's but I'd be surprised if it was that easy.

Thankyou Malcom,
I take it you mean car on stands then a jack underneath the wishbone and undo the inner bolts then drop jack. Reverse to refit.

Yes. lower the whole wish bone, using a trolley jack or other.

Many do it that way when they do not have a MB spring compressor

Do I leave the outer end/ball joint connected or leave on and lower the inner.

That must come off or the wishbone will not come down level.

As it is the same as a 124 if you do a search there should be some info on this for 124 or maybe someone else will join in

Does that work on these? When I did mine, the weight of the car wasn't enough to be able to compress the spring enough to get it back together.

Good point,,I am posting on what I have read on here, the 500 is a heavy lump,,a spring compressor makes it dead easy

Hi all,

Just an update, fitted new springs today and the result is a huge improvement. Apex springs (30mm lower) and Bilstein shocks all round, fitting went well. The fronts I managed with two compressors, although tight for space it is do-able (the internal one is the easiest to use I should imagine) The rear was a bit of a pain as you have to remove the boot carpets and aluminium bulkhead to get to the shock nuts. Then I found the easiest way was to place a jack under the inner bush of the wishbone and drop it to remove the spring. The only thing I did wander is what is the module with the little arm that fixes to this inner bush bolt, the arm sits under the wishbone?? The car sems a lot more positive with no wallowing.:p:p:p
