Is it posible to re-code a second hand merc key (say a 2000 reg 320 clk) with some odd rain dance moves as ive read in other posts where people swear theyv'e done it, or is it a trip to the stealler.......discuss!

Absolutely - and I can speak from experience Took it to the Dealer. He laughed. I put it back on eBay - and made a nice profit :lol: Lesson learned.

Not quite.As far as re-coding (as has been said).Yes. But as a cheapish source of a case if yours is battered,then they're fine.BTW.innards from the old style black 3-button key are not compatible with the newer chrome key.

You can't recode keys.

I gather that when your vehicle is manufactured it is assigned 6 codes for it's keys.

Replacement keys are ordered by your dealer from MB who then produce a new key using one of the remaining codes.

The keys themselves are one time programmable and cannot be reprogrammed once issued.

In fact they can be reprogrammed. The dealer cannot do it but a few (very few) specialists can. After all, its just a PCB with a chip and a few ones and zeros.

This was asked before on a Merc forum and I am sure it was this one. I posted screen shots of the software that will do this. The reason I posted that it is possible is because I can do it.
Search and I am sure you will find the screen shots. If not I will post them again.
