Hello and welcome to the forum, I do not think that you have a MAF sensor on your car, but there is another one that can give this problem.
Black C55 or someone else will give you the answer

if it's a 97 model then it has a MAF

sara please check the DIY section for how to clean your maf (mass airflow sensor) or get it replaced by an indie

cheers

Mass sensor

Hi Sara
We have had this problem, and I think what your car is actually doing is going into limp home mode. It will probably be the mass sensor on the air intake.
You could probably get a replacement for about £60-£80
see Ebay and quite easy to replace, not a huge job, an indie could do it for you.

Yes you do have a maf part number A 000 094 09 48 buy it from a Bosch service center for about £100, dont buy anything other than the original part.

To test the maf unplug whilst the engine is running, if the engine stalls the MAF is dead, if it continues to run rough its something else.
You may need to reset the MAF once fitted 5 min job if that.

Where are you in the UK?

hi,
yes i managed to find it and, followed the previous instruction of disconecting while engine was running,i assume thats from the cable but the engine was still running.
I have taken out the sensor and cleaned it even though it was in pristine condition, nevertheless followed the instructions...
Im taking it for a spin just to see if that cures it..will reply when i get back ..if i get back!!

Problem Solved.....

Hi Guys,

I am please to say the problem has been solved.....the maf sensor was not at fault as I tested that as you said, but then just to check we changed the
spark plugs which i think might have been the culprits here !!
Its fine now, runs smoother than ever...many thanks for your help.
I,ll be returning if have any further problems.

bye for now
