Hi All

I was about to seal a deal on a used CLK when I realised it doesnt have parktronic! I have had parking sensors in the current car and find them useful to a certain degree.

How useful have you found parktronic in your cars??

Urgent responses would be mucho appreciated!

Thanks
TC

It's useful, but if not factory fitted, u can get it retro fitted. I got a rear sensor put on my mother's VW golf. It works v well, and only cost about 150 quid.

It depends upon the car and the driver. I can see both ends of my car so don't need (or want it). They do go faulty with water ingress so not having them is one less thing to repair. However if you cannot see the back of the CLK you may decide that you cannot live without them , you could always have an aftermarket system fitted and painted.
You need to decide for yourself if this is one of your 'deal-breaker' options.

Agreed....wouldn't like to be without it now. Even more so on a CLK as the rear vision is very restricted.

I'd hate to go back to the guesswork thing again. :)

I think it's like a lot of options. Some don't seen totally necessary to begin with, but after a while, u feel like u couldnt live without em. In my case, kelyless go, and comfort entry amongst others... didnt see the point at first, but now i think they're indispensible!

Thanks for the information! I just talked to the dealer - and he has said that he can get rear parking sensors retrofitted without much hassle, before I pick up the car, of course it is going to cost some.

I feel this is enough - anyone care to comment on the usefulness of the front part of the parktronic system?

Cheers

our e320 estate has front and back sensors. its a personal thing, but i find the front sensor a bit annoying, tho it can be turned off. Re. retro, the only thing to watch for, is that some have sensors which are not flush to the bumper, but stick out a little, like penny pieces.

I don't think the CLK Cab has a front "bomb sight" so you may find it useful.

With an open top car,and the roof is down, while waiting to pull out, old ladies can throw their shopping at you as they walk past the sensors.
I find them just as useful as the rear,if not just for low walls and in narrow drive ways. Nice to have.

They are a straight forward retro fit.

Thanks! As I said - the stealer has said he will fit the rear ones!

Where/how can I get the forward ones retrofitted?

AS an aside, I have heard of some laser diode based sensors available as well - which, as a side effect, interfere with laser guns and radar cameras etc. :)

Any MB dealer, it is the most common retro fit of all. Have it done from day 1 and then no regrets

Cool! I am DEFINITELY getting the Laser Park Pro retrofitted to the front then, will allow the dealer to fit the MB sensors to the back.

My understanding of the retro fit ones is that they a) stick out a bit, and b) only have the audio warning. The yellow / red warning light system will not be activated as per factory fit Parktronic.

A small point, but worth knowing before you commit ...

Dont forget that this does nothing to protect the front corners of the car.

It's easy to fit rear one's as they will drop in on the reversing light circuit to get the command. The front ones aren't so easy to retrofit as the command is governed by being in first gear and the speed you are doing.

Many of the MB cars now the removable strip in the bumper, and these should be drilled as a clearence hole as the sensor is fixed to the bumper behind, If MB do this or not I do not know, I will look it up later and see.
