Is there a way to find the build date? might it be one of the numbers on the piece of paper stapled in the back of my service book for example?

Kind regards

If you click on the link below and enter your VIN, it will show you the full build spec of the car and the delivery (Build) date.

Hi Peter,

I already did that while viewing the car, and it showed a delivery date of something like 21/10/2009.

Some people on the forum have said that the actual build date and delivery date can be 1-2 months out. If this is correct then that would put my car into bad radiator terratory.

Ideally if anyone can tell me where I am supposed to look for the white dot that was placed on modified radiators, then I would know for sure. I am already sure it is a Valeo from the straight castle crimps, but don't know if it is good or bad until I find where the white dot is supposed to be

Kind regards

Luke

Hi Malcolm, you kindly sent me a doccument about replacing the Valeo radiators, but it didn't give me any clues as to how to identify good/bad ones.

Can anyone tell me where exactly to look for the white circle? (like its on the upper left or lower right etc etc) unfortunately its on the oil cooler means nothing to me (I'm more electronics than mechanics lol)

You can look at the crimping that has been changed on the later rads, you can follow the cooler pipes to find the cooler

I am in the same position.
I have a CLK 270CDI. delivery date is march 04. It has a valeo rad and the date on the valeo sticker says 25-02-04.

Could this be a modified one? I cannot see any whit dots on top of the radiator. Maybe I am looking in wrong place too.

That one must be OK as there is never a label on them and the last bad one was 30-09-03

My 2003 w209 had a Valeo rad and immediately after I bopught it I took it to my local Indy.

When I said what I wanted, the indy pointed out that the Valeo issue was a particular problem at a particular time - mine was OK and could well continue to be OK.

I didn't take a chance & arranged for him to fit a new rad - it was a Valeo - however the written three year warranty eased my worries!

If the rad has not been replaced then there will be no white dot,, the rads in production did not have a white spot

I have been thinking this all wrong then. I was of the understanding that the later valeo had the white dot. So is it a case that the white dot is put on by the dealer then if they modified them?

I am no closer to knowing if my radiator is good or bad lol

If it does not say Behr on it,,and no white spot it could be an original that has not gone faulty, why not pop into MB and ask them, or an indie

Spoke to a main dealer today.

They claim

1) It is a very small number of cars effected - they have never seen one there themselves - BS ALERT! There is a thread on this very forum mentioning someone who had valeo problems with my local dealer

2) They said that the way to identify whether it is good or bad it to check the code on the radiator which is hidden away and requires removal of the radiator to see it.

Interesting to find out there was a problem with the radiators, what was the effect? overheating problems?? Does this include the Ml270cdi's and could somebody please give me advice about mine (please see details below). I’ve posted a couple of threads about a starting/idling problem and would really appreciate any further advice?
Thanks Warrick
