I've fitted a new diff to the 250d which is the small light one. The ABS sensor snapped inside and will need to be drilled out.

The diff is from a 190 2.3 (3.91 ratio) and the 250d is 3.64. The sensors look the same size and hole/bolt is the same but the 190 one has a plastic end.

Question is can I remove the one in the diff and fit my 250d one (why would the sensor be different?) or will I be left with a hole in the side?

I need the car driveable for Monday. :)

2 hours later and the ***** is extracted. Different part but the w124 one will fit fine. Looks like they went for a cheap plastic one on the w202.

glad you got the sensor sorted, but expect further problems. as the diff is a different ratio the abs ought not to function correctly - expect the light to be on when you get up to speed.

That diff ratio from a 190 2.3 dosen't look right I think it should be about 3.27 .

Because off the different ratio's,( if auto box) you may have to adjust kick down. Hope this helps

I'm dreading an ABS fault was hoping it would still be ok. :(

Mine's a manual so no kickdown problem. The 3.91 is from a 250 auto I presume a C250 as the ABS sensor is from that. It might have been swapped afterwards though. The breaker "Just Merks" said it was from a 2.3 190.

Given all the different ratio's there must be some way to calabrate the ABS?

Not really, the calculations are on wheel revolutions, it may be OK as the sensor is on the axle, and that is going at the same speed as the wheel

The way to "calibrate" the ABS is to fit the ABS control unit from the car which yielded the replacement diff.

Dont try to fiddle with the existing unit it will be ruined if you try.

No need it's working fine. The 3.91 seems perfect. :)
